At JME Insurance Agency, we work with a wide range of highly respected carriers to help our clients find coverage that fits their needs. Here’s a brief overview of some of the insurers we represent:
GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX)
JME is a general agency for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, which means we not only sell BCBSTX group policies directly to clients but also assist other licensed agents with placing small group business. We have a strong relationship with their sales and service teams, allowing us to get cases approved and resolve issues quickly.
BCBSTX offers group health coverage in all 254 Texas counties, with both fully-insured and level-funded plan options. They also have the largest provider network in Texas, with PPO and HMO plans available. Their HMO rates are more than 30% lower than their PPO rates and offer the lowest-price options in most markets.
Baylor Scott & White Health Plan (BSW)
JME is also a general agent for Baylor Scott & White Health Plan’s small group offerings. BSW operates in 171 Texas counties and offers a choice of two PPO networks and two HMO networks. Formed through the merger of Baylor and Scott & White hospital systems, BSW has a strong reputation in Texas. Their PPO plans often offer some of the most competitive rates in the state, though their provider network is smaller than BCBSTX and UHC. BSW can be a great fit for many employers, especially if preferred providers are in-network.
UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
UHC is the largest health insurance company in the country and offers group coverage throughout Texas. While their fully-insured plans have sometimes been priced higher than competitors in recent years, they’ve become more competitive—especially with their platinum and gold PPO plans. UHC also offers level-funded plans starting with just two enrolled employees, and their rates for healthier groups can often beat fully-insured premiums. Getting a firm level-funded quote requires medical questionnaires or claims data, but the savings can be significant. UHC offers PPO, EPO, and HMO options.
INDIVIDUAL HEALTH INSURANCE
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX)
While JME is appointed with multiple individual carriers, most of our clients choose BCBSTX. In Texas’s individual market, only HMO plans are available (no PPO options), and BCBSTX’s Blue Advantage HMO network is one of the largest and most accessible across all 254 counties. Although their rates are slightly higher than some competitors, many clients find the broader network worth the additional cost.
DENTAL AND VISION INSURANCE
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) and UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
Both BCBSTX and UHC offer competitive dental and vision plans, with large provider networks and reasonable rates. We frequently quote their ancillary plans alongside health insurance to help clients build a more complete benefits package.
Humana
JME also works with Humana for dental and vision coverage. Humana no longer offers group health insurance, but they remain a strong choice for ancillary products, with a wide range of plan designs, large networks, and competitive pricing. Humana also offers individual dental and vision plans for clients purchasing coverage on their own.
MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX)
At JME, we typically recommend BCBSTX for clients shopping for Medicare supplement (Medigap) plans. All Medigap plans are standardized—meaning, for example, that a Plan G from one insurer covers the same services as a Plan G from another.
Choosing a Medicare supplement comes down to price, company reputation, and service history. Our clients have had consistently positive experiences with BCBSTX. While their initial premiums may not always be the lowest, their rate increases have historically been moderate, which matters since many clients keep their Medigap plans for years. BCBSTX also offers discounts to members who transition from a BCBSTX group or individual plan, helping to make the move to Medicare coverage more affordable.
